Dr. Smilen is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, NYU School of Medicine, is the Associate Director of the Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. He also serves as the Residency Program Director for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and fellowship training in Urogynecology at NYU Medical Center. He is an active member of the American Urogynecologic Society, the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons and the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Dr. Smilen has presented his research at various national and international conferences, published peer-reviewed work and written expert opinion for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the area of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. He specializes in non-surgical and minimally invasive surgical approaches to the treatment of overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, vaginal tightening, labial contouring and pelvic organ prolapse.

Dr. Smilen provides standard urogynecologic care at the Center for Female Pelvic Medicine.

 Xenform Postmarket Surveillance Study

To compare transvaginal repair with a biologic mesh to traditional native tissue repair in women surgically treated for anterior/apical pelvic organ prolapse with or without concurrent cystocele.
