Dr. Laurence Sands is a Professor of Clinical Surgery and Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida.

He received his Medical Doctor degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL in 1990. He then did his general surgery residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA from 1990 until 1995. He then went on to do his colon and rectal training at the Cleveland Clinic Florida and completed this program in 1996. He has worked at the University of Miami for the last 14 years where he is now Chief of the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at that institution. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. In addition, he has served as President of the South Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and now serves as a Governor of the Chapter.
