Dr. Aline Charabaty is the Clinical Director of the GI Division and Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) Center at Johns Hopkins-Sibley Memorial Hospital. She completed her residency and GI fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital, where she joined the GI faculty and established and led the IBD center for 13 years before joining the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine faculty in January 2019. In addition to participating in traditional educational platforms, she founded @MondayNightIBD, a twitter handle that brings clinicians together to discuss the management of complex IBD cases; she received the Healio Gastroenterology Disruptive Innovator Award during ACG 2019 for this initiative, and @MondayNightIBD is cited as a reliable source of education for trainees in a ASGE statement and other peer-reviewed articles providing guidance for trainees education in the era of COVID19. This platform also aims to bring IBD patients and clinicians together, to give patients a reliable online source of information and to allow clinicians to better understand the patient experience in their approach to research and clinical care. Dr. Charabaty is the Chair of the Greater Washington DC/Virginia Crohns and Colitis Foundation (CCFn) Mission Committee since 2012, served on the CCF National Scientific Advisory Committee Patient Education and Physician Education Committees and is the recipient of the CCFn Excellence in Medicine Award in 2020. She is actively involved in educational and advocacy efforts, with CCFn, the AGA Diversity Committee and the AGA Government Affairs Committee and with the ACG second year fellows’ and regional and national courses. She is a strong advocate of women and diversity in GI and has promoted under-represented populations through her work with the AGA diversity committee, the Women in Endoscopy group and other collaborations. She was selected as a Washingtonian Top Doctors by her peers on consecutive years.
